Aytahn Benavi
First Prize Winner
Aytahn Benavi, 18, lives in Austin, Texas. He began studying guitar at the age of 5. Aytahn enjoys performing solo, as well as with the Austin Classical Guitar and Austin Bella Corda guitar orchestras. His favorite musical experience was playing on the NPR show From The Top.
Aytahn is currently a senior at the Liberal Arts and Science Academy, and enjoys playing tennis in his free time.

Ethan Boyers
Ethan Boyers, 15, is a rising tenth grader from Santa Rosa, California. He began classical guitar lessons at the age of seven. Ethan performs with chamber ensembles at school and likes creating unique arrangements with his classmates. A recent musical experience also includes performing in Sonoma Musica Viva’s tribute to Walton and Hindemith. Outside of the practice room and concert hall, Ethan enjoys playing tennis, exploring the outdoors, and traveling with his family.

Stephen Crawford, Jr.
Stephen Crawford is in eighth grade and has been playing classical guitar for four years. Stephen is enrolled in the Cleveland Institute of Music (CIM) Pre-College Program where he studies music theory, secondary piano, and eurythmics. A student of accomplished guitarist and CIM Faculty member Andy Poxon, Stephen is a member of a Chamber Ensemble led by Director Carolyn Gadiel Warner of The Cleveland Orchestra. Stephen regularly performs with the Cleveland Classical Guitar Society where he was also a member of both the youth and adult/advanced guitar orchestras. In the summer of 2019, Stephen won first place in the pre-college guitar competition sponsored by East Carolina School of Music with his performance of Variations sur Les Folies d’Espagne, op. 45 by Mauro Giuliani (1781-1829).

Riley Edwards
Riley Edwards is a senior at McCallum High School in Austin, Texas. He started playing classical guitar at the age of 7, and began competing once he reached high school. Riley has won first place in multiple competitions, including the Texas Guitar Competition at UT Dallas, the Texas Guitar Conference at the University of Mary Hardin Baylor, and the West Texas Guitar Festival at UT Permian Basin. He will be attending the Butler School of Music at UT Austin next year under the direction of Dr. Adam Holzman.

Abhi Milind Gudipati
Abhi Milind Gudipati age 15 started learning classical guitar at age 9 when he was in Arizona. Abhi currently studies classical guitar with Dr. Isaac Bustos, a professor at the University of Texas at San Antonio, after moving to Texas in 2017. In Arizona, he won an award in the Arizona Music Fest, a state-level strings competition. Abhi also has performed in a chamber music concert at the prestigious Musical Instrument Museum (MIM) in Scottsdale, Arizona, in recognition of his virtuosity and playing at such a young age. In Texas, Abhi has won numerous awards in competitions such as the Texas Guitar Conference & University of Mary Hardin Baylor Highschool Solo competition, Texas A&M International Guitar Symposium, the Boston Guitar Fest in the high school division and UT Dallas International Competition youth divisions.

Angela Hernandez
Angela Hernandez has been pursuing the classical guitar for 10 years. She was born in Miami, Florida, and has grown up loving music. Starting at the age of 7, she fell in love with the guitar and has been playing, practicing, and performing ever since. She started her studies at the Hess Conservatory of Music with Dr. Federico Musgrove Stetson. Later on, Angela received a full scholarship to the Miami Conservatory of Music and continued studying with Dr. Musgrove Stetson. She is currently part of the Miami Guitar Duo with Patricia Hernandez and started additionally studying with Professor Rafael Padron from the University of Miami. Angela has entered various competitions throughout Florida. She has received first place in the Florida Guitar Festival Youth Competition and has also received first place in the Florida Guitar Foundation Youth Competition. Angela has performed in various concerts and recitals in Clarke Recital Hall and Gusman Hall at the University of Miami. She has had various master classes with professional musicians including Irina Kulikova, Rafael Padron, Texas Guitar Quartet, Kupinski Duo, Jorge Luis Zamora, Rene Izquierdo, and other world-renowned musicians. Angela Hernandez aspires to continue her musical career.

Patricia Hernandez
Third Prize Winner
Patricia Hernandez is 16 years old and has been playing the classical guitar for 9 years. She has a strong passion for music and performing, which she aims to use to spread goodness. As a 7 year old girl, Patricia started her classes with Doctor Federico Musgrove Stetson at the Hess Conservatory of Music and has been studying with him privately and in other conservatories ever since. Currently she is a scholarship student at the Miami Conservatory of Music. She also studies with Professor Rafael Padron as a soloist and as a part of the Miami Guitar Duo, alongside her twin sister. Patricia has received master classes from various artists such as Jason Vieaux, Martha Masters, René Izquierdo, Irina Kulikova, the Kupinski Guitar Duo, Jorge Luis Zamora and others. She has attended, competed, and won many classical guitar competitions in the past 5 years. Patricia is excited to see what the world of classical guitar will bring her in life and plans on further fulfilling her passion while impacting others with her instrument.

Nathaniel Hill
Nathaniel is currently a junior in high school. Throughout early childhood he won many competitions such as best picker east of the Mississippi, best picker of the south, first place in The Southern guitar Festival in Columbia, South Carolina, as well as placing third place in the Columbus International guitar Competition. Nathaniel has had many master classes and lessons with names such as, Christopher Parkening, Jason Vieux, Doug James, David Burgess, and Rene Izquierdo. Nathaniel has also won many competitions throughout high school. He has won the Appalachian Guitar Festival Competition twice and placed second in their college division, he has also won first place in Columbia’s Southern Guitar Festival three times. He performed his first concerto at the age of 15 with the Piedmont Chamber Orchestra.

Kassandra Hughes
Kassandra Hughes is a 15 year old homeschooled sophomore and has been playing guitar for 5 years. She is a graduate of the Childbloom Guitar Program where she remains a member of the 6 String Players ensemble directed by Chris Peleshenko. Under her current coach, Professor John McClellan, she placed third in the 2019 Louisville Guitar Competition. Kassandra’s best friend is a harpist and together they have formed a duo called Stringed Together. Her other hobbies include drama, musicals and dance. She plans to attend college and pursue a performance degree. She resides with her parents and four siblings in St. Charles, Missouri and thanks all of her family, friends, and guitar teachers for their support!

Avi Mushran
Avi Mushran has been playing the classical guitar for 12 years and currently studies at the California Conservatory of Music. He has performed and competed across the USA and in Canada, placing second in the Domaine Forget Academy in 2019 and performing in the Junior Bach Festival in 2019. Avi has graduated from high school this year and will be doing a dual degree involving Guitar Performance in college in the fall. Outside of guitar, Avi also plays squash and plays trombone with his school jazz band.

Garrett Podgorski
Garrett Podgorski is 18, from Burbank, California. He started taking guitar lessons at the age of 9. His first teacher was Janet Robin, a world renowned electric guitarist and former student of the iconic Randy Rhoads. By the age of 11, Podgorski became an artist for Taylor Guitars, Schecter Guitars, Fender Guitars, and Gibson Guitars. At the age of 15, Podgorski released his first album, "
Limitless
." Christopher Parkening heard Podgorski's album and invited him to audit the Parkening master class at Pepperdine University in February 2017. Inspired by the experience, Podgorski switched his focus to classical guitar. In November 2018 and November of 2019, he won 1st prize in the Gohar and Ovanes Adriassian Classical Guitar Competition at California State University, Los Angeles. He also placed 3rd in the prestigious Parkening International Young Guitar Competition in May of 2019. He will be attending Pepperdine University in the Fall to study Classical Guitar Performance under Christopher Parkening.

Mei Yin Steadman
Mei Yin Steadman was born in Austin, Texas on October 8th, 2005. Growing up in her parents' music school, Orpheus Academy of Music, seeing kids taking music lessons every day, she expressed her desire to learn to play music as soon as she could talk. She started Musicianship classes at age four, guitar at age five with her dad, and piano at age six with her mom. She continues to play both instruments, but now studies guitar with Professor Adam Holzman and piano with Dr. Stephen Burnaman. She has excelled particularly at guitar, winning solo prizes at the Texas Guitar Competition, the Asian American Competition, The Texas Guitar Conference, and the Houston Classical Guitar Festival, and with a guitar ensemble at the Brownsville Guitar Ensemble Festival. She has performed on the radio for KUT's Eklektikos with host John Aielli, on Marfa Public Radio's "In Tune" with host Nick Hurt, and at Carnegie Hall for the fifteenth anniversary concert of Orpheus Academy of Music.

Ian Tubbs
Fourth Prize Winner
Ian Tubbs is 15 years old. Since 2016, Ian has received top prizes in several competitions, including Guitar Art Festival in Serbia, Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, Columbus State Guitar Symposium, Latino Arts Guitar Festival in Wisconsin, Texas A&M Guitar Symposium, Orange County Guitar Circle at Chapman University, and the University of Louisville Guitar Festival. He has also had the privilege to play in guitar ensembles at the University of Indianapolis, Latino Arts Guitar Festival and the Bloomington Classical Guitar Society at the Jacobs School of Music, and with a guitar orchestra in Belgrade, Serbia. In 2018, Ian was awarded the Bloomington Classical Guitar Society Aspiring Artist Award, after which he performed a solo concert in Auer Hall at the Jacobs School of Music. In addition to practicing and performing, Ian enjoys soccer, engineering, church youth group, reading, and photography.

Eric Wang
Second Prize Winner
Eric Wang is a 10th grader at Valley Christian High School in his hometown of San Jose, California. He started classical guitar at age 4. He has won 1st prize in many classical guitar competitions including Guitar Foundation of America Competition (2018, Youth Junior Division) and Parkening International Guitar Competition (2019, Youth Division). In 2020 National YoungArts Competition, he was a Silver Award winner. Eric was a featured classical guitarist on NPR’s "From the Top."

Darren Wu
Darren Wu, 17, is from San Jose, California, and has been studying classical guitar at the California Conservatory of Music for 11 years. He has performed in various solo competitions, and was most recently a semi-finalist at the Parkening Young Guitarist Competition. In addition to solo performances, Wu has performed as a member of the Conservatory's advanced ensemble, which has performed in the Peninsula Guitar series, and which earned 1st place in the Guitar Foundation of America youth ensemble category. He has also performed in master classes for Raphaella Smitts and the Montenegrin Guitar Duo.
